Our Story
A story of God’s faithfulness
Every church has a story, and ours began with a simple desire: to create a place where people could discover Jesus, grow in faith, and experience genuine community.
On Sunday, December 3, 2006, Peninsula Mission Community Church held its first public worship service. We began as a nondenominational congregation with a focus on the essentials of the Christian faith. A small group of families came together because they were looking for something simple and authentic—a grass-roots community of faith committed to sharing the good news of Jesus and building meaningful relationships.
Travis and Dixie Stewart helped shape that original vision and provided pastoral leadership during the church’s early days. Our first services were held in the Rest Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church building in the beautiful seaside community of Sidney/North Saanich.
In 2007, Peninsula Mission became affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC). This relationship connected us with a wider family of churches that shared many of our values and provided opportunities for encouragement, partnership, and ministry beyond our own community.
Over the years, our church family has been involved in a variety of ministries and missions. These have included Safe-Water Haiti, First Nations youth ministry, medical missions in Fiji, and Young Life Canada, among others. Each opportunity gave us a chance to put our faith into action and serve people both locally and around the world.
Like every church, our ministry has continued to evolve. In our early years, we saw our youth ministry grow and our congregation increase in size. Today, our ministry focus has increasingly turned toward serving and connecting with seniors, while continuing to look for ways to care for people of all ages.
But the most important part of our story isn’t measured in attendance numbers, programs, or organizational structures.
It is the spiritual foundation God has been building among us.
That foundation includes a commitment to biblical truth, spiritual leadership, authentic community, and active service. Through changing seasons and circumstances, we have experienced God’s faithfulness—and we believe that faithfulness continues to guide our future.
As we look ahead, we are grateful for those who helped build Peninsula Mission, thankful for all God has done, and excited about what He may yet do.
